Kursus Bahasa Inggris di Malang: What Makes English Unique?

For today’s article, I write about uniqueness in English. This information doesnot come from me, but rather get it from social media.

Language is known as a tool for communication which has many functions, such as it shows the trait of the nation. This means that, when someone is speaking by using his/her language, another people as the listener are enable to detect where he/she comes from. Another function is about its position as a communication. In this case, language is the medium in which people use to deliver their intention, about what someone thinks and feels. Seeing this nature, every nation inevitably has its own language. Let’s take one example of language that becomes a worldwide language, that is English. As a worldwide language, English is used by people around the world during their daily conversation, especially when the people are out of their country. English as an international language has some uniqueness. As what I have cited in wordvoice.com writen by Evan Salim, some uniqueness of English can be categorized into;

1. Stewardess becomes the longest word that can be typed by using our left hand.

2. As the vice versa, lillipop is the longest word typed be the right one.

3. Typewriter is an English word which stays on the row QWERTY buttons.

4. Abstemious (hemat) and facetious (lucu) are two words which apply five vowels in order.

5. “The” is the most frequent word used in speaking.

6. There are only four words which use the ending of –dous. They are tremendous (dahsyat), horrendous (heboh), stupendous (menakjubkan) dan hazardous (berbahaya).

7. Dreamt, as the past participle form of dream is categorized as the only word ended by –mt.

Those are some uniqueness portrayal which exist in English. We might not realize about these somewhile. However, this also includes as the other nature of language. They doesnot only as a communication tool to show the trait or identity of a nation, but they also share their uniqueness that make them different with another language.
